    Short Term Disqualifications

Always ask a lawyer if you need more inforamtion about Short Term Bans or Short term disqualification if you are unsure about any of the  information contained in the site just call us or use the online advice forms.

Short term disqualifications or short term bans are really under utilised in Scotland. There are often good reasons to ask a court to disqualify rather than impose penalty points. Simply consider that if you have points and you consider the risk of re offending is significant then you might want the option of asking the court to ban for a short term on this particular occasion. In cases where the points are taken into consideration in the Totting Up process this will have the effect of wiping the slate clean when your licence is returned to you. Attractive particularly for those who may work abroad or travel abroad for some time each year. The plea can be tendered at the appropriate time and lower the impact of the driving ban on your day to day life.

If you were disqualified for less than 56 days, the court will stamp your licence and give it back to you. The stamp will tell you how long you are disqualified for. You do not need to renew your licence when the short period disqualification ends. Your licence becomes valid again the day after the expiry of the disqualification.
